Beth Monaghan Shares Work-Life Balance Views at Lowe’s

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 21, 2011 – Beth Monaghan, founder and CEO of Monaghan Group, a customized accounting services firm, participated in two forums with Finance Organization Realizing Women’s Advancement, Retention and Development (FORWARD) this month. Both events were hosted by Lowe’s and were held at the company’s offices in Mooresville and North Wilkesboro.

Monaghan joined other female executives from the region to discuss the theme “Finding a Work-Balance Life or Fit” with attendees ranging from new graduates to established career women. The panel discussions were held to provide women a chance to learn about how others have adjusted to changing work-life demands over the course of their careers.

“This is a subject about which I am truly passionate, so I was delighted to be invited to participate” explained Beth Monaghan. “As I’ve shared many times, our firm was founded on the idea that corporate America is better served when employees are able to honor their whole selves, and that is what the work-life balance is all about.”

Theresa Gebhardt of CATO Corporation and Jessica Good of PwC joined Beth Monaghan to provide a wide range of perspectives on how balance looks for different individuals. Monaghan shared her story of building a firm where consultants are able to give fully to their clients and to their families, encouraging those attending to be creative and assertive in looking for solutions that are a win for all.

“One of my favorite sayings is ‘be the change you wish to see in the world,” Monaghan said. “It is important for women, and all individuals, to ask for what they need … and work hard to make sure that the company still gets what they need. It can be done, it just takes some compromise and imagination.”
